The use of any substance derived from a living source to treat or prevent disease is often referred to as a “biologic treatment,” which is derived from the Greek Bios, which means life.

The term “orthobiologics” refers to regenerative biologic treatments are those that use cells, plasma and growth factors in the treatment of orthopaedic conditions.

The term “regenerative medicine” refers to the use of autologous (meaning from you) orthobiologic tissues that have the potential to repair, replace, or regenerate human cells and tissues, and to restore or establish normal function.

These treatments include cellular therapies, including platelet rich plasma, growth factors, autologous adipose tissue grafts, and scaffolds.
